MegaPixel.co.il recently published a comprehensive overview of the CP+ expo in Yokohama Japan. Since there was very little English coverage of the show we decided to bring a shorter version of the original Hebrew article for the benefit of our English reading audience.

Canon

Canon was the leader of CP+ this year after it announced several new products just before the show including the new 600D (aka Rebel T3i) and the 1100D (aka Rebel T3) as well as the two new 500mm and 600mm lenses. Also new from Canon were two Speedlites (the Speedlite 270EX II and the Speedlite 320EX with LED light for video). Finally Canon announced 5 new compact (and super-zoom) cameras including one with a GPS (SX230) – a first for Canon.

On display at CP+ was also the 200-400mm prototype lens Canon is currently developing which comes with a built-in 1.4X extender (a world first).

Nikon

Nikon did not have many new things to show in CP+. It did however announce 8 new compact and super zoom cameras, two of them we found to be particularly interesting: the COOLPIX P300 with a 12MP CMOS sensor and f/1.8-f/4.9 lens and the COOLPIX P500 with the longest zoom in the industry – 36X (22.5-810mm).

Sony

Although Sony did not announce any new products at CP+ it did have much to show as well as some interesting things to talk about (such as the opening of the NEX E-mount format to outside companies (Zeiss, Cosina, Sigma and Tamron are already on board).

Ricoh

Ricoh recently announced it is working on a special adapter/sensor that will fit M-mount lenses (Leica). A prototype was on display at CP+.

Fujifilm

Fujifilm main product for CP+ was the X100. We first had a chance to play with it during Photokina 2010 but this was a real working prototype with the new APS-C sensor. The X100 will start selling in March for about 1200$ USD.
